Privacy policy
We keep this simple. Here's exactly what happens with your data on Tunnelwise — including the Google Analytics we use to see which explainers help.
On this page
Tunnelwise is a static publication about VPNs. You can read every page without an account, and we don't ask for personal information to do so. This page explains the small amount of data that is involved when you use the site. Last updated 9 October 2026.
What we collect
You can read every page without telling us who you are. If you email us or subscribe to updates, we keep the email address you provide only to reply or to send the updates you asked for, and nothing more. The one other thing we collect is page measurement through Google Analytics, explained next.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which explainers are useful. It's run by Google LLC and Google Ireland Ltd., and it reports on the pages viewed, the referring website, approximate location to city or country level, device and browser type, and session timing. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We've turned off advertising features, Google signals and ad personalisation, so none of it is used for ads — and we never sell it.
GA4 relies on two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_<ID>, which last up to two years and are only set once analytics is allowed. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, a banner asks you first, and nothing is sent to Google unless you click Accept. Everywhere else, analytics is on by default and you can switch it off at any time. A browser sending the Global Privacy Control signal is treated as opted out. Your answer is saved in your browser's local storage under the key analytics-consent — not in a cookie.
You can change your analytics choice whenever you like. Google describes its own handling of the data in Google's privacy policy, and the Google Analytics opt-out add-on switches it off on every site you visit.
Cookies and affiliate links
Apart from the two analytics cookies described above, the site itself sets none. When you click an outbound link to a VPN provider, that provider — and, for affiliate links, its affiliate network — may set its own cookies to track the referral, under its own privacy policy rather than ours. We explain how those links work in our affiliate disclosure.
Your choices
You can browse with your own privacy tools — including a VPN and a tracker-blocker — and nothing here will break. If you subscribed to updates, every email includes a one-click unsubscribe, and you can ask us to delete the address at any time by emailing [email protected]. If this policy changes, the updated version will appear on this page.
